Pékin, 14 août (APS) – Il ne reste plus que cinq disciplines pour les sept athlètes sénégalais encore en lice pour entrer dans la légende en décrochant une médaille aux 29-èmes JO qui se déroulent à Pékin.
Le Sénégal avait déplacé une délégation de 16 athlètes à Pékin. Tous ceux qui sont déja entrés en compétion — judo et escrime — sont éliminés.
En judo, le dernier du quatuor de tireurs qualifiés, Djéguy Bathily de la catégorie des plus de 100 kilos montera sur le tatami vendredi, pour tenter de soulager ses compatriotes tous éliminés, malgré deux repêchages de Gisèle Mendy et Hortense Diédhiou pourtant présentées comme des candidates aux médailles au vu de leur potentiel.
Inconnu au bataillon des judokas de renommée au Sénégal, Djéguy Bathily qui a obtenu sa qualification de haute lutte après s’être longtemps positionné derrière les ténors de la catégorie en Afrique, tentera de ‘’jouer sa chance dans une catégorie ouverte à toutes les surprises’’, souligne le directeur technique national du judo, Alassane Thioub.
A part Djéguy Bathily, le Sénégal est encore présent en athlétisme avec Ndiss Kaba Badji (triple saut) et Abdoulaye Wagne (800) qui seront en piste respectivement le 18 et le 20 août pour tenter de passer le premier tour des éliminatoires.
Ils seront imités le 19 août par Adama Diatta, seul lutteur qualifié dans la catégorie des 55 kilos en lutte libre qui aura l’occasion de vivre sa toute première sortie en compétition olympique.
Les deux athlètes inscrits en canoe et kayak sur eau douce, Assane Dame Fall et Kathia Bâ, se lanceront dans les éliminatoires à partir du 18 août.
Bineta Diédhiou, porte-drapeau du Sénégal, sera la dernière à monter sur un tatami pour le taekwondo le 21 août, date à partir de laquelle plus aucune compétition ne concernera la délégation des athlètes du Sénégal.
