Mugabe annonce des élections au Zimbabwe

Le président Robert Mugabe a laissé entendre samedi qu'il était favorable à de nouvelles élections au Zimbabwe, en invitant son parti à ne pas répéter la défaite électorale essuyée en mars dernier.

Mugabe s'exprimait samedi à l'issue de deux jours de conférence de son parti, le ZANU-PF. Il a indiqué à environ 5.000 de ses partisans que de nouvelles élections auraient lieu si le projet de partage du pouvoir devait échouer.

L'accord de partage du pouvoir au sein d'un gouvernement d'unité signé en septembre par le président avec son principal opposant, Morgan Tsvangirai, a capoté sur l'impossibilité de s'entendre sur la distribution des ministères. Les dernières violences dans le pays font douter de la possibilité réelle d'appliquer l'accord. De nombreux opposants ont subi des attaques ces dernières semaines, d'après les mouvements de défense des droits de l'Homme.

L'impasse politique laisse les citoyens du Zimbabwe sans direction face au chaos de l'économie et en proie à une crise humanitaire. AP
