Le Kenya avec 25 médailles a terminé en tête du classement des médailles des Championnats d'Afrique 2010, qui se sont achevés dimanche après cinq jours de compétition à Nairobi, devant le Nigeria et l'Afrique du Sud.
Le pays organisateur a glané 10 médailles d'or, 7 d'argent et 8 de bronze, son dauphin en totalisant 18 (8 or, 5 argent, 5 bronze) et l'Afrique du Sud, 3e, 19 (6 or).

Ce dimanche a été faste pour le pays hôte puisque la Kényane Grace Wanjiru a conservé dimanche son titre sur 20 km marche en 1h 34 min 19 sec, nouveau record continental, soit plus de quatre minutes de mieux que sa marque précédente, réalisée à Addis Abeba, en 2008.

Wanjiru avait pris une année sabbatique pour avoir un bébé en 2009 et n'a repris l'entraînement qu'en début d'année: "Je suis surprise d'avoir gagné. Après une année complète sans m'entraîner, je ne pensais pas pouvoir être en forme pour être compétitive. C'est formidable", a-t-elle dit. AFP
